1st Round Playoffs

The 7th Grade Basketball team went into tournament action yesterday with a home game against Jarrett Middle School. Both teams came out knowing they had to play for a win to advance in the winners bracket of the tournament. The pace was quick from the jump with Jarrett getting a four point lead early and the Cougars fighting back for a 7-7 tie at the end of the first. Team defense and good ball movement at the offensive end allowed Carver to get a little bit of control heading into the half with a 21-16 lead. Several cougars were in foul trouble in the first half so teammates Nicholas Cole and Noah Tews stepped in the game to contribute and that trend would continue for the rest of the game. The Carver team knew that Jarrett would not give up and were prepared for the charge that came late in the game and allowed the Trojans to get within six points. Niekie Thomas and Nathan Townsen were able to run the offense and hand out four assists each while Hayden Schmitz, Michael Fowler, Merrick Altis and Seth Holyfield worked hard to reverse the ball and get open shots. After hitting three three-pointers in a row the Cougars were able to contain Jarrett for the remainder of the game and came away with the 46-29 win. Leading scorers were Nathan Townsen and Niekie Thomas with eleven points each and Michael Fowler with nine. Merrick Altis had a team high four offensive rebounds and the defense was led by Seth Holyfield getting four steals.
The 7th grade team will play at 3:00 Thursday at Carver with the opponent to be announced Thursday at lunch. Please come out and support your team – it is worth the $2.00 price of admission.
